It is with love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jillaine “Jill” Marcella Davis (Girodat) on June 5, 2026, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, just one day shy of her 77th birthday.
Jill entered the world on June 6, 1949, in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, the second child born to Joe and Velma “Dolly” Girodat. Growing up alongside her eldest sister Jane, younger sister Pat, and younger brother Brad, Jill’s formative years in Gull Lake grounded her in the values of family and community that she would carry throughout her life.
In her early twenties, Jill lived in Moose Jaw and Regina before settling in Govan, Saskatchewan. It was there that she met her dance partner for life, John “Rick” Davis. The two were married in 1978, the very same year they welcomed their beloved son, Andrew. After spending time working as a clerk for the RCMP detachment in Southey, Rick, Jill, and Andy relocated to Medicine Hat in 1986, the community they would proudly call home.
Jill lent her talents to the Redcliff RCMP and McMann Youth Services before ultimately retiring from the Medicine Hat Police Service. Her dedication did not go unnoticed; by the time she retired, Jill had received two Outstanding Service Awards the most ever awarded to a civilian in the service’s history.
Her public service was mirrored by an equally generous private life. While working with McMann, Jill and Rick opened their hearts and home to 56 foster children over the course of their fostering career. Among them was a sibling group of five who held a permanent, cherished place in Jill’s heart for the rest of her days.
Family meant everything to Jill. In 2010, she was overjoyed to discover a half-sister, Rita Miller. Rita was welcomed into the family with open arms and a wealth of love.
Whether shopping, sharing a coffee, or heading out for a lively night of Bingo, Jill treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
But above all else, Jill loved to dance. She and Rick were widely recognized as the finest dancers in Medicine Hat. They brought joy and rhythm wherever they went, everywhere from the local Farmers’ Market to the Redcliff Harmony Hall and even to the swinging nightlife of Nashville Tennessee. Dancing always brought out Jill’s bright smile.
Jill was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Dolly Girodat; her daughter in infancy, Jennifer; her sister, Jane; and her half-sister, Rita. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her adoring husband, Rick; her son, Andy (Stacey) Davis; her cherished grandsons, Jackson and Aiden; her sister, Pat (Stan) Wessner; her brother, Brad (Wanda) Girodat; and a large, loving network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family wishes to extend their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to the staff at River Ridge Seniors Village for the exceptional care, compassion, and genuine love they showed Jill during her final years with them.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 13 starting at 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Redcliff. All family and friends are invited to attend and honor her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made in Jill’s name to the ‘Alberta Hospice Palliative Care Association’. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by
