MARY STODOLKA
Posted: June 9th, 2026 1938 – MARY STODOLKA – 2026
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Eva Stodolka on 04 June 2026 at Riverview Age Care in Medicine Hat at the age of 88 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Glen (Debi), Wanda (Garry), Joyce (Boyd), and Blaine (Donna); seven grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Gerard “Gerry”; her parents; and 12 siblings. Mary was born 05 January 1938 to George and Florentina Moser at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Among her greatest joys was meeting her high school sweetheart, Gerry, and she later married him on 20 November 1956. They spent 65 wonderful years together. Mary and Gerry raised their four children and together they worked the Stodolka family homestead making it a third generational operation resulting in 100 years of Stodolka ownership. They then decided to build a house in Richmound, Saskatchewan in 1981. Mary loved gardening, baking, cooking, playing cards, dice, knitting, crocheting, bowling, curling but most of all she loved softball. She started playing softball in High School and did so for many years. Unfortunately, for health reasons, she was sidelined and had to stop. However, softball was still in her blood, so she started coaching her girls on the 10 & under softball team. She continued coaching for another 12 years. Mary served two years as president of the Catholic Women’s League of which she had been an active member for 20 years. Mary also served on the curling board, hall board and was always ready as a volunteer to bake a pie or help make perogies for blackjack night of which she was a dealer. Mary retired to Medicine Hat in 1997 and joined the Hat Harmonettes and became a spare for the Medicine Hat Curling Club which kept her busy. Along with her love for cooking, baking and canning. Lastly, our family and all who knew her will remember her as being devoted to her family. She loved to travel but even more being present and supportive of her children’s lives and their sporting events. Mary was competitive, organized, intentional and was a feisty force to be reckoned with. She will be missed more than we can begin to put into words. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB on Thursday, June 11th, 2026, at 7:00 pm.
