BRITTAIN It is with heavy hearts we announce that GRANT GILBERT BRITTAIN, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the age of 87 years.
He will be deeply missed by his companion Barbara of 25 years and her son Joe. He is survived by his sons, Wayne and David; daughters, Donna Marie and Barbra Anne; nephew Evan (Deborah); and niece-in-law Lisa; as well as two great-nephews, Dylan and Harley; and one great-niece Shinea, along with his extended family and friends. While his life took many unexpected turns, circumstances kept him away from his four children for many decades and he tried in vain to find them in his final months of life. Grant always kept a photo album of his children on his nightstand by his bed. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Donna, nephews Timothy and Avery and niece Lori.
He was born in Preston, Ontario on June 24, 1938. He was placed in a foster home until he turned 16. Grant was forced to grow up fast, facing many challenges in his life. Throughout his younger adult years, the care and love of his sister Donna, embraced Grant which helped shape the man he became. His sister Donna was his rock, who frequently looked out for her younger brother until her passing in 2024. Grant had his hand in various jobs, from working on the farm, driving truck, building prefab homes, and finally, retired after working for 24 years as a custodian for the Lethbridge School Division.
Grant spent his retirement years doing what he loved most, tinkering in the garage, working on his vehicles, whittling down Christmas trees to make canes, making models, and riding his Harley.
Grant lived a long and full life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love. Even though Grant was a quiet man, he will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, his dry sense of humour, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew him.
A private gathering will be held to celebrate his life. Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.
