DAVID BLASCO October 23, 1953 ~ July 5, 2026 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Blasco, who passed away peacefully on the evening of July 5, 2026, in Lethbridge, Alberta.
David entered the world on a frosty October 23, 1953, as the first child of Richard and Joyce Blasco and the family’s first grandson. Two years later, he welcomed his younger brother, Derrick, into the family. Raised in Lethbridge, he completed his elementary, middle, and high school education before attending the University of Lethbridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Around that same time, David married the love of his life, Edith “Edie” Mehew. Together they built a home filled with love and raised three sons: Stephen, Ryan, and Matthew.
Choosing to invest in the family business, David became an integral part of the Blasco automotive business, managing one of the Lethbridge locations for many years. His integrity, knowledge, and leadership earned him an appointment by the Government of Alberta to a committee responsible for developing the regulations governing automotive sales and service through AMVIC (the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council). He later served as chairman of the committee, a role that reflected the respect he had earned within the industry.
Outside of work, David embraced the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he took pride in staying active as a dedicated weightlifter. He valued hard work, family, and the simple joys of time spent outdoors.
David’s life changed forever following a devastating motor vehicle collision caused by another driver running a stop sign. The injuries he sustained resulted in years of chronic back pain that required powerful prescription medication. Like many who suffer from long-term pain, he developed a dependence that became one of the greatest challenges of his life. Despite multiple attempts at rehabilitation, addiction remained a difficult battle. While it altered the course of his life, it never diminished the love his family had for him or the man they knew him to be.
David’s father, Richard, beautifully expressed one of his final memories: “When I was standing beside him in the hospital, watching his life slip away, he said, ‘Lean over and kiss me.’ I did, but the tears wouldn’t come, so I knew I would never be the same.”
David will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his parents, Richard and Joyce Blasco; his brother, Derrick Blasco; his sister-in-law Geraldine; his nephew Bradley; his niece Heather; his sons, Stephen (Kelsey), Ryan, and Matthew Blasco; and his cherished grandchildren, Rylen, Ryder, Gage, Gaven, and Harper. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edith “Edie” Blasco (née Mehew). Though his life was marked by both remarkable achievements and profound hardships, those who knew David best will remember his intelligence, quiet strength, dedication to his family, love of the outdoors, and the kindness that remained at the heart of who he was.
A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at a later date.
