It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Gartly announce his peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Home on Sunday, August 9th, 2026. Donald was born October 22nd, 1933, at Burstall, Saskatchewan, on the Gartly family farm. Donald was predeceased by his loving wife, Loreen, on March 27, 2021. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Pollock; son, Doug Gartly; Marlo Lanz, a beloved member of the family; grandchildren, Myles (Sarah) Pollock and Jeff (Dara) Pollock; great-grandchildren, Noah, Everleigh, and Amelia Pollock; brother, Dale Gartly; sister, Annabelle (Melvin) Derzaph; sister-in-law, Delores Gartly; brothers-in-law, Harry Eirich and Barry Eirich; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Ann and John Gartly; brothers, George Gartly, Murray Gartly, Jim Gartly, Gerald Gartly; sister, Jean (John) Sorochan; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Molly Eirich; brothers-in-law, Alfred (Joan) Eirich, Wilfred (Marlitt) Eirich; sisters-in-law, Eva (Dave) Gaylor, Pat Eirich, Marlene Gartly and last but not least, his special grand dog, Sammy, who was very special to him. The early years of Donald’s life were spent growing up on the family farm in Burstall. In the 40s, the Gartly family moved to Medicine Hat and shortly after to Redcliff. Donald met the love of his life, Loreen Eirich and they were married on September 20th, 1958. Donald built the family home in 1961, where they raised their family, and he resided there until his passing. Donald worked 23 years at Domglas in Redcliff as a shift foreman and made a career change to a journeyman electrician. He started his career with Knowles Electric, followed by many union jobs in Lloydminster, the Joffre plant in Red Deer, Burstall plant, and various other industrial gas plant shutdowns. He was then employed as an electrician at CFB Suffield until he retired in 1998. He was known to be a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything (known as Mr. Fix-it). He enjoyed his yearly camping trips as well as vacationing in Montana with his wife Loreen. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the 5 West medical staff for the great care he received, as well as to St. Joseph’s Home for the amazing care he received there in his final weeks. A Graveside Service will be held at the Redcliff Cemetery on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM, when Donald and his beloved Loreen will be placed to rest.
