WEHLAGE, Elmer

WEHLAGE Mr. Elmer Wehlage of Milk River, beloved husband of the late Marjorie of 60 years, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the age of 98 years.
Elmer is lovingly remembered by his children Wanda (David) Erickson, Leanne (Faron) Ellis, Chris (Shari) and Byron (Jodie), 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great- grandchildren.
Elmer was born November 29, 1927. The Wehlage family moved to Masinasin in 1930. He attended Masinasin school. He completed an engine technician course by correspondence. He then built an earth moving scraper and began to dig many basements, dugouts, dams, worked on a road construction crew and plowed snow. He married Marjorie on October 12, 1957. They resided in the Masinasin area where he purchased the original Wehlage farm and worked a mixed farm until 1966 and then bought the Wendelin Harty farm continuing to expand with cattle and land.
He was very talented with fixing equipment and building parts on his metal lathe. He kept very active in the community. He was the Chairman of the Masinasin School Board and Recreation Board for six years. He served with the Milk River and District Agricultural society. During this time the swimming pool was constructed in Milk River and the skating rink was converted to a Civic Centre. He was also a long-standing, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Elmer was an avid reader, he was given a kindle on his 85 birthday and he was never without it. He enjoyed travelling. He went to a number of locations with the 4-H Club, Minnesota (to visit the Wehlage family), the Dakotas, California, Oregon, Lewiston, and Vancouver.
He was predeceased by his parents Anna and Anton. He was the youngest of six, all have predeceased him. His brothers Arthur (Marie), Albert (Olive), Bernard, Edwin (Yvonne), and sister Hilda (Francis) Belisle. His in-laws Rose and John Harty, sister-in law Bernice Harty, brothers-in law Michael Harty and Bruce (Kathleen) Harty.
Elmer will be remembered as being kind, loving to tell stories, his sense of humour, smile, and his laugh. The pride and love for all of his family. Elmer will forever be in our thoughts, prayers, and in our hearts.
Elmer was laid to rest at Allerston Cemetery.
