ELDRED ALLISON “AL” GREEN September 30th, 1937 September 10th, 2026
It is with sadness we announce, that on Thursday September 10th, Eldred Allison “Al” Green passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara.
Born in Humbermouth, Newfoundland, Al was a man defined by his adventurous spirit, entrepreneurial heart, and boundless love for his family. In 1955, that sense of adventure led him to join the Canadian Navy. By 1966, Al left the Maritimes with his young family, heading west to Calgary, where he immediately connected with the can-do spirit and thriving business opportunities of late – 1960s Alberta.
Al was a natural builder and a lifelong learner. After a dedicated career with Prudential Insurance, his entrepreneurial drive led him to pave his own path. He successfully ventured into commercial real estate development and taught himself the ins and outs of information technology, becoming an independent IT technician. In 2006, Al and his wife, Barbara, moved to Medicine Hat, where they opened and operated Kanada Trading side by side for 13 years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Al was truly one of a kind. He loved everything from country music to opera and he could often be found singing along to the radio, dancing and simply being silly. Al had a sharp mind and a charismatic personality; he thoroughly enjoyed a good political debate, a competitive game of crib or marbles, and telling a tall tale or a joke. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who will forever cherish his playful spirit.
Al lived his life with the belief that everything is simply mind-over-matter. Every challenge he faced was met with fierce resilience, his stubborn optimism and a twinkle in his eye.
Our family extends our deepest gratitude to the kind, compassionate and loving staff at South Country Village (Sunnyview) who cared for our Dad over the past 18 months.
Al is lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Alyson (Kevin), Heather (Dave), Valerie (Steve); grandchildren, John (Kristine), Liam, Maureen (Mike), Reilly, Nate, Bronwyn, and great granddaughter, Nora.
As per Al’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, Medicine Hat SPCA or Animal Pound Services.
