MARIA CARDENAS May 10th, 1950 September 9th, 2026 With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Luisa Cardenas of Medicine Hat, formerly of Santiago, Chile, on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, at age 76. She passed away surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Maria was born on May 10th, 1950, in Santiago, Chile, to Luis and Maria Teresa Saaverdra. She spent her early years in Chile before building a life defined by devotion to family, hard work, and God.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and great-grandmother, Maria found her greatest joy in time spent with her family. She was deeply involved in volunteering at church and will be fondly remembered for her kindness, patience, sharp wit, and warm sense of humour that could brighten any room. Her unwavering love, guidance, and support left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Maria is lovingly remembered by her children, Monica Cardenas (Eric), Hernan Cardenas, and Jeannette Cardenas (Daryle); her grandchildren, Stephaine(Dylan), Andres, Nicholas, Sara, Maria, and Aiden; and her six great-grandchildren, Emilio, Sophia, Dylan, Allison, Noelle, and Cassiel. She is also survived by her sister, Ana, and her brother-in-law, George.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at Primera Iglesia Hispana Evangelica in Medicine Hat at 1:00pm.
