RONALD RYANT 1952 ~ 2026 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron (Ronald) Ryant of Dawson City, Yukon, on September 2nd at the age of 74, in Raymond, Alberta.
Born in Toronto on February 18th, 1952, Ron was raised by his loving parents Rita and Maurice Ryant in Ottawa, Ontario.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Mitch Ryant (Hunt), his son Tiel Ryant and his wife Shannon (Blackmore), and his grandchildren Zahra, Chase, and Dax Ryant all of Raymond, AB. Ron leaves behind his family in Ottawa; his sister Paula Ryant, his brother Nate and wife Alana Ryant, nephews Eric Olsen, Josh Ryant (Nina), and his great-nephew Wade.
Ron will be missed by his sister-in-laws (Geri and Brenda) and family in Calgary, his ‘family’ and friends in Dawson City, Yukon; as well as many cousins spread across Canada. Throughout Ron’s life, he was well known for his generosity, quirky sense of humour and silly bathroom/shower thoughts and jokes. He was talented and passionate about music.
Ron wore many hats in Dawson City. He was a volunteer fire fighter, he was a school bus driver, he mined for gold, he was a co-owner of the Trading Post, he opened up the only internet café Tasty Byte and was a renowned barista! Ron was not afraid of hard work and always ready to lend a hand and loved playing in his Band Cabin Fever.
Ron loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish and camp. Later in life, he especially loved sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the outdoors with his grandchildren. He accomplished many things in his lifetime that he was proud of, including building a family with his loving wife in the Yukon, purchasing land and building a house without ever having a mortgage, creating strong business partnerships, and of course creating lifetime friendships that will never be forgotten.
Ron will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to family, friends, and all the medical staff over the last few months for their care, support, and kindness; especially the Chinook Regional Hospital and Jack Ady Cancer Centre in Lethbridge, as well as the Raymond Hospital and their palliative care teams.
Details of a Summer 2027 celebration of life in the Yukon Territory, which he loved, will be provided at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ron’s memory, 200 – 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
