STEWART, Margaret “Anne”

STEWART Margaret “Anne” Stewart, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, surrounded by family. She was in Edmonton, attending her 60th nursing class reunion at the University of Alberta when she sustained an injury.
Anne was born October 4th, 1945, in Magrath, Alberta, to Margaret and Gerald Leishman. As the oldest of four children, she spent her childhood playing with cousins and excelling in scholastics and athletics. She loved being in Waterton with extended family.
Anne later trained as a nurse at the University of Alberta and earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Nursing. She dutifully cared for her patients and then went on to care for her children.
She married Calvin Stewart in 1968 in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple. The two were partners in everything for 58 incredible years and together they raised five amazing children on their farm.
Anne selflessly offered her time and talents to her family and community, devoting countless hours to individuals, local and global humanitarian causes, Southern Alcare, local nursing homes, church callings, and temple service. Notably, she spent 18 months in Mongolia as a medical missionary alongside her husband. She adored her family and cherished the many humanitarian trips she took with her husband and grandchildren.
Despite her many obligations, she always found time to joyfully cook elaborate Sunday dinners complete with roast beef, potatoes, rolls and her “grandma fruit salad.” She is remembered for always asking “how about a little treat,” her endless supply of delicious goodies, her passion for games, puzzles and poetry, and the kindness she showed to everyone with whom she came in contact.
She is survived by her husband Calvin, her children David (Karri), Barbara, James (Karin), fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and her siblings Carolyn Leishman, Robert (Debbie) Leishman, and William (Elaine) Leishman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sons, Gerry and Brian.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25th, at the Lethbridge South Stake Center (2410 28 St. S, Lethbridge, AB) from 6:30-8:00 PM. An additional meet the family will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM on Saturday, September 26th, at the same location.
The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM, and the interment immediately after at the Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed on www.salmonandsons.ca/obituary/Anne-Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen or to the LDS Humanitarian Fund. In addition, the family asks you to honour Anne’s legacy of service by showing kindness to someone in need.
