LARRY TAYLOR
Posted: October 2nd, 2026 LARRY TAYLOR 1948 ~ 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey “Larry” Taylor, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the age of 78 years. Larry was known for his kindness, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and genuine ability to connect with people. Larry was born on August 7, 1948, in Wingham, Ontario, to Harvey Lewis Taylor and Wilhelmina Ethel Taylor (Gollan), the eldest of four children, with siblings Ken, Monte and Vicki. As a young man, Larry developed a love of hockey as a goaltender and later spent many years coaching youth teams. One particularly proud moment for Larry and his family was his attending the University of Northern Michigan. Some of the most special moments in Larry’s life were the birth of his daughter, Carrie Ann and the arrival of his grandchildren, Oliver and Kod. After discovering his appreciation for the mountains and prairie landscapes while visiting his daughter he moved out west eventually settling in Medicine Hat in 2013. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a purchaser, where he became known for building strong relationships with coworkers and clients. One of the greatest chapters of Larry’s life began in 2002, when he met Penny, the love of his life, soulmate, partner, and best friend for 24 years. Together they built a beautiful life and made their home a place filled with love and memories. Larry and Penny enjoyed tending their yard and garden and appreciating the simple pleasures of being together. They felt fortunate to have such wonderful neighbors. Larry had a deep love of music and built an impressive collection of LP records, with a particular appreciation for songwriters such as John Prine. He also enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, and, of course, politics-a subject he could happily discuss and debate for hours. Those who knew Larry will remember his humor, his stories, and his remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. He could meet someone for the first time and, before long, have them laughing as though they had known each other for years. He especially enjoyed his coffee times at McDonald’s with Penny and friends, where conversation and laughter made ordinary moments special. Larry collected friendships wherever he went, from childhood friends to the many “Old Cronies”. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, included, and valued.
In the final chapter of his life, Larry faced his journey with bravery and strength, with Penny by his side.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, friendship, family, music, stories, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by Penny and her son Bill, his daughter Carrie Ann, grandchildren Oliver and Kod and all those whose lives he touched.
At Larry’s request there will be no service. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
