October 9, 1968 – September 6, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Blaine Lukenda, who died of natural causes at his home in Calgary, Alberta, on September 6, 2026, at the age of 57. Blaine was a loving and devoted father to Kynen, a beloved and cherished son to Irene, a dear brother to Alexis, previously Renee, (Winston), a half-brother to Brien, and a fun-loving uncle to Tristan and Marie-Lee. He will be deeply missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and all those who knew and loved him. He was pre-deceased by his father, Stan; Dida Steve and Baba Madeline; and grandparents, George and Barbara.

Blaine was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, to his loving parents, Stan and Irene. He lost his father at the young age of 13, but he forever cherished the memory of him and their time together, especially the special bond they shared through their love of athletics. Stan coached Blaine in both soccer and hockey for many years and the two spent countless hours playing and enjoying a variety of sports together. These treasured experiences helped shaped Blaine’s lifelong passion for sports, a love that stayed with him throughout his life, including his years playing in men’s hockey leagues.

Blaine was an avid and devoted sports fan, known for his unwavering loyalty to his favorite teams. Whether cheering on his favorite team, the Los Angeles Rams, the Sacramento Kings, or his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and Raptors, he followed his teams with enthusiasm, passion, and dedication. But as much as Blaine loved the excitement of the game, nothing brought him greater joy than sharing that passion with his son Kynen. Together they celebrated victories, endured defeats, and shared many moments cheering on their favorite teams. Through their mutual love of sports, they created treasured memories and a special father-son bond that will live on forever.

During his teen years, Blaine spent his summers in Sacramento, California, where he later moved to attend college and gain invaluable experience in the automotive industry while working at his Uncle Walter’s car dealerships. After several years, his deep love for his immediate and extended family, and his desire to be closer to those who meant so much to him, drew him back to Alberta, where he made his home in Calgary.

A true car enthusiast, Blaine transformed his passion for automobiles into a successful and rewarding career. Over the years, he distinguished himself in the automotive industry, earning numerous sales awards in recognition of his outstanding achievements. With his natural warmth, charismatic personality, and genuine ability to connect with people, Blaine excelled in his profession and was highly regarded for his knowledge, expertise, integrity, and dedication throughout his career.

Blaine developed a love for travel, enjoying the opportunity to explore new places, experience different cultures and most of all, connect with the local people he met along the way. With his outgoing personality and genuine interest in others, it was often the personal encounters that made his travels so memorable. Blaine’s favorite experiences were a cherished family vacation to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico, and an unforgettable three-month solo journey through Southeast Asia. Yet, of all the adventures he experienced, nothing brought him greater joy than his golfing trips to British Columbia with his son, Kynen. These special times together created cherished memories that Kynen will carry with him for a lifetime.

Blaine had a larger-than-life personality and a zest for life that was truly unforgettable. With his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and playful nature, he had a special way of bringing laughter and joy to those around him. A natural teaser, Blaine loved to joke and share a laugh, often leaving others smiling long after the conversation had ended. His infectious smile, boisterous personality, and genuine friendliness made people feel instantly welcome. Blaine truly had the gift of the gab and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether sharing a funny story, exchanging a playful remark, or simply enjoying a good conversation, he had an effortless ability to connect with people. To Blaine, strangers were simply friends he hadn’t met yet. His warmth, humour and unmistakable charm left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Blaine had a keen interest in politics, current events, and world affairs. Never one to shy away from sharing his thoughts and opinions, he was always up for a lively discussion or spirited debate.

Beneath Blaine’s strong exterior was a heart of gold, filled with love and genuine compassion for others. He had a special way with children, a deep affection for animals, and a soft spot in his heart for those less fortunate. His empathetic nature and caring spirit revealed a softer side of Blaine that was truly special.

Although Blaine did not regularly attend church, his faith in God, which was initially instilled in him through his grandmothers, remained steadfast and unwavering, a deeply personal belief that he carried with him throughout his life.

Above all else, Blaine treasured his family. He deeply valued the time spent with both his immediate and extended family, cherishing the moments they shared together. Fiercely loyal and devoted to those he loved, there was nothing Blaine wouldn’t do for them. He shared an exceptionally close and cherished lifelong bond with his mother Irene, and was extremely grateful for their relationship, which was rooted in deep love and unwavering support. She was a constant and treasured presence in his life, and their bond was one he carried with him always. Blaine was always there for his mother, offering his help in ways that meant so much to her, and she deeply valued his presence as a constant source of love and support. The immense love she had for her son was beyond measure, and she will carry her love for him deeply in her heart always.

Blaine also shared a special bond with his sister Alexis. She will miss his big and caring heart, their deep and heartfelt conversations, and the way his genuine joy lit up every room he entered and every interaction he shared. Above all, she will profoundly miss having her brother to share the years ahead with, experiencing life’s journey together as she always imagined they would.

At the center of Blaine’s world was his beloved son Kynen, his greatest source of joy and proudest accomplishment. The love he had for his son was immeasurable, and the bond they shared was the most valued part of his life. Blaine treasured their time together, especially their weekly dinner and movie nights, and he took great pride in sharing his wisdom, guidance and life lessons with his son. Through the love he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the values he instilled, Blaine leaves behind a lasting legacy in his son that will endure throughout Kynen’s life.

Blaines sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved him. To lose someone so full of life, so unexpectedly and far too soon, makes his absence all the more profound. Though we are left wishing for more time and moments together, we are forever grateful for the love he gave us and the memories we shared.

Blaine was truly one of a kind, and the world feels less bright without him. He will be remembered for the passion with which he lived, the depth with which he loved, and the joy and humor he brought into the lives of those around him. His tremendous heart and dynamic spirit will live on in those he loved most, and moving forward, they will honour him by choosing to live life as he did: loving deeply, laughing loudly, and hopefully leaving the world a little brighter. Blaine leaves behind a space that can never be filled, and a love that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in our hearts.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will take place in the summer of 2027.
