DONNA JENKINS 1934 – 2026
Donna Jean Jenkins (nee Annon), aged 92 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Bow Island Hospital. Donna’s life revolved around her husband, family, and the Bow Island community. Her joyful, kind, playful, and loving spirit made her a beautiful gift to everyone in her life, especially her family. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Linda (Larry) Volk of Ponoka, Larry Jenkins of Ponoka, and David (Rhonda) Jenkins of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Robyn Volk (John Hobbs), Brandi Jenkins, Dustin Volk, Lynsi Jenkins (Scott Peake), Tim (Jenny) Volk, Cassie (Jim) Hager, and Cole Jenkins; seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Callum, Tony, Sawyer, Nicci, Nia, and Renee; one sister, Carol Bergdahl (nee Annon); one brother, Ritchie Annon, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Donna was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Hazel Annon; her husband of 70 years, Donald Jenkins; her daughter, Susan Jenkins; her granddaughter, Fallon Jenkins; her brothers, Darrel Annon and Norman Annon; and her brother-in-law, Gerry Bergdahl. Donna was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, on May 30, 1934, to Walter and Hazel Annon. She grew up as the eldest daughter in a family of five children. The Annon family initially lived at the Annon Coal Mine, then on a farm north of Bow Island, before eventually moving to Bow Island in 1940. Donna married Donald on October 4, 1950, surrounded by family and friends. Shortly after their marriage, they moved onto the family farm, where they continued farming until 1995. In 1982, Donna and Donald built their dream home and moved into the town of Bow Island. Donna was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed doting on all the new babies in the family. After the children left home, Donna took on many of the farming duties traditionally handled by a hired man, including driving truck, running errands, and helping wherever she was needed. She was the ultimate hostess and was never happier than when she was serving a big meal to her many family members and friends. Donna was a longtime member of the Bow Island Legion and the Women’s Institute and was also involved with the local Cubs organization. She took great pride in the good work of these organizations and enjoyed actively contributing to her community. Donna also served as president of the Bow Island Ladies Curling Club. She loved curling, especially the socializing that followed each game. She and Donald shared a love of camping and became avid snowbirds, spending many winters in Yuma. Donna was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. The celebration of life will take place in the BOW ISLAND GOLDEN AGE CLUB (206 5 Ave E) on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Gloria Angle presiding. A private family interment will take place in the Bow Island Cemetery.
