LEONARD ZIEBART
Posted: November 3rd, 2026 LEONARD ZIEBART Leonard Ziebart of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved husband of Rita Ziebart, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the age of 72 years. Along with his wife, Rita, he leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ian (Amy) Ziebart and Natalie (Cam) MacLeod and his grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Ziebart and Piper MacLeod. Len also leaves to cherish his memory his brothers and sisters, Marie (Don) Boschee, Alan (Maxine) Ziebart, Anthony (Brenda) Ziebart, Rosalie (Jan) Lenny, Michael (Linda) Ziebart; his mother-in-law, Mildred Anton; his sisters-in-law, Charmaine (Mike) Hellman and Elaine Kunz, and numerous nieces and nephews. Len was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth (Betty) Ziebart; his brother, Garry Ziebart; his father-in-law, Ted Anton and his brothers-in-law, Doug Gibson, Delmar Eckert, and Larry Kunz. Len was born in 1954 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and raised in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. Len was a welder by trade and had a passion for farming with his father-in-law, Ted and later his brother, Garry. Len married the love of his life, Rita in 1976. He resided in Fox Valley for the first 46 years of his life. Len enjoyed volunteering for his community, spending years on town council and as mayor of Fox Valley. He enjoyed curling, and coaching baseball. Len spent many hours traveling all over Canada following Ian playing badminton and watching Natalie figure skate and play sports. Len worked at Saskatchewan Minerals in Fox Valley before moving to Swift Current to finish his 42-year career in Chaplin, SK. Len and Rita lived in Swift Current for 15 years before retiring to Medicine Hat, AB. Len enjoyed spending time going on tropical vacations. He was always up for an adventure – snorkeling with turtles in Hawaii, para sailing in the Dominican, and exploring with anyone who was willing. Len loved his family, farming, hunting, fishing and his grandchildren. Len enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with close friends – being outdoors, with or without modern plumbing, was something he loved to do. After retiring, he spent many hours with his grandchildren camping, boating and playing. His grandchildren believed that their grandpa could do and fix anything and enjoyed his signature chocolate martinis. He also spent many hours at his favorite place, Saskatchewan Landing, surrounded by many family and friends and catching fish at the “Lenny Tree.” Len enjoyed playing and watching sports – especially his Swift Current Broncos, Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He watched the Blue Jays whenever he could and was proud to show off his “Buck Martinez” bobblehead.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Home for the compassion and care shown over the last two months. As per Len’s request, a private family celebration will take place.
