June 29, 1957 ~ November 21, 2014

Nancy Gertrude Garrison (nee Alstad) passed away with her loved ones nearby at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, November 21, 2014, at the age of 57.  Nancy was born June 29, 1957, along with her twin sister, Jane in Grostenquin, France. She lived many places over the years, moving with her military family.  After living on her own in Grande Prairie, Nancy moved back to Comox to be near friends she made there. Through church involvement, Nancy met the love of her life, (Benny) Joe Garrison. They were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple in 1980 and were blessed with their son Blain in 1982. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1985 to be near Joe’s family. Nancy cared lovingly for her husband while he battled progressive M.S. After Joe’s passing in 1991, Nancy put herself through college and became the first college graduate from both families with a diploma in Business Administration. She went on to work in administrative positions, most recently at CFB Suffield. Many knew her smiling face at the Movie Gallery. She loved to go to the movie theatre and have her unbuttered popcorn. Nancy was an avid 10 pin bowler and loved to golf. She used her creative hands in tole painting, embroidery, quilting, calligraphy and other needlework. Forever faithful and active in her church, Nancy held teaching and leadership positions for many years. Family and friends from all areas of her life were very important to her and she was always there for anyone in their time of need.  In the past year during her time at Sunnyside, Nancy kept a positive outlook and built great friendships.  She always had a joke to share, a listening ear with the caregivers and looked out for other residents when she could. Nancy will be forever remembered in the hearts of her family, son, Blain and Nakai Garrison; granddaughter, Kali; step-son, David, sister, Karen Alstad (Dennis Jervah);  in-laws, Robert (Judy) Garrison; sister-in-law, Erma Garrison (Terry Rattai); nieces and nephews, Arlene & Denise Jervah, Pamela & Cameron McNulty, Jai Garrison, Daniel Langlois, Morgan Wiebe; Nakai’s parents, Keenie & Lyle Town; best friend, Cheryl (Allen) MacDonald & family; & many dear friends.   Nancy was predeceased by her twin sister, Jane; husband, Joe; parents, Harry & Arlene Alstad; brother, Rick Alstad; brother-in-law, Bobby-Jay Garrison; nieces, Amanda & Cara McNulty.  Those wishing to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1865 Division Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, November 27, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.  The Funeral Service will commence at 12:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
