ICHINO Momotaro
Posted: September 7th, 2012August 31, 1913 – September 3, 2012
We sadly announce the death of our father and grandfather. Momotaro (Matt) Ichino passed away on Monday, September 3rd, shortly after his 99th birthday.
He was born in Steveston, B.C. on August 31, 1913 where he spent his early years. Matt spent most of his adult life in Lethbridge where his passion for cars led him to a career as a mechanic. He later operated a convenience store near Henderson Lake where he loved to visit with customers. He took great joy in his weekly swimming sessions at Southland Leisure Center and breakfast at McDonalds with family.
Matt was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Shizue (Susan) Ichino, sons Allen and Brian, sisters and brother. He is survived by his brother Kuni Ichino, daughter Sheila Ichino, son Donald Ichino, grandsons Matt and Kenji McEwen, numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. We will miss his gentle, quirky wisdom and humor.
A private family service will be held in Lethbridge at a later date.
Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thank you to the staff at Shawnessy Lodge and Bethany Care; Matt always appreciated your kindness and care.
