EVANS Douglas

It is with great sadness, the family of Douglas James Evans of Beaver Mines, AB announce his passing at the age of 67 years old on September 17, 2012.
Douglas was born in Dundurn, SK in 1944. Growing up on the family farm, Douglas was a polio survivor at a young age. He then went on to be one of the top academic students in Saskatchewan. As a young boy he also participated actively in the 4H club winning numerous awards. He continued with his education receiving his BA at the University of Saskatoon. He then had to take a year off due to encephalitis. After recovering from this illness he continued on with his education and received his law degree at the University of Alberta, graduating in high standing for his class.
After graduating from the U of A, he continued working as a social worker at the Hospital in Ponoka, AB where he met and married his first wife Winnifred Bowden.
Douglas started practicing law in Lethbridge in 1970. He carried on a successful law career in Lethbridge for 18 years. He was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel in 1988. Douglas was a very loyal Lougheed Conservative and played an integral part of insuring that Dick Johnson was elected and remained elected. He held many roles of responsibility for the Lethbridge East PC party. He was active with the Little League Organization, while serving on different boards throughout Alberta. He was on the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Hospital in Ponoka, as well as he served on the Liquor Licensing Appeal Board and the Law Enforcement Review Board.
In 1994, Douglas resumed practicing Law in Pincher Creek. It was there where he met and married Joanne Bailer. He had a passion for his work in Pincher Creek and continued working throughout his illness until his time of death.
Douglas loved his life in Beaver Mines. He took great pride in their yard as well as their home. He was an avid hunter and took great pride in his accomplishments and respect for the sport. He loved his family and especially loved having his grandchildren around.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife Joanne Evans of Beaver Mines, AB. He is survived by his children, Shannon Evans (Nathan Fairbanks) and her children Michael and Madison Yanish, of Lethbridge, AB, Trenton (Stephanie) Evans and their children, Paige and Ty, of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is survived by his mother, Irene Evans of Saskatoon, SK, brothers and sisters Don (Marion) Evans, Doreen (Warren) Stevenson, Murray (Olga) Evans, Marion Evans, Neil (Yvette) Evans and numerous nieces and nephews whom all loved Uncle Doug. He is survived by Joanne’s children Kent Bailer, Brent Bailer, Trevor (Tori) Bailer and their children Sophie and Lexi, Shari Bailer (Jerry LaGrandeur) and their daughter Saylor, all of Pincher Creek, AB.
Douglas was predeceased by his father Donald W. Evans in 2002.
A Funeral Service for Douglas will be on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the PINCHER CREEK UNITED CHURCH, 972 Police Avenue, Pincher Creek, AB, with Reverend Brent Woodard, Officiating.
