KOTKAS Kerwin

Kerwin Jon Kotkas, 54, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of October 1st after a long, difficult yet courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Kerwin was born July 20, 1958 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Joyce and Ken Kotkas. He was the oldest of four brothers, and is survived by his parents and brothers Jim, Ken, and Chris. Kerwin was a born athlete. He played numerous sports, including college football. Kerwin was a convert to the LDS church, and was called to serve in the Utah North Mission. Kerwin’s testimony of the gospel continued throughout his life. While on his mission he was introduced to his future wife, Shelly White. Together they have three children, Jamy (Erik) Dahle, Logan Kotkas and Keedan Kotkas. They later divorced; however, Shelly continued to be a part of Kerwin’s life.
Kerwin loved the outdoors, and had many great times on backpacking trips with his family. He was a cowboy at heart, and found serenity on many horseback rides in the mountains. Kerwin loved his family, and had great pride in their accomplishments. He also found joy in the little pleasures of life. You could never catch Kerwin without a Coke in his hand and Mentos in his pocket. His sense of humor was evident every time he managed to give someone a pinch with his assistive grabbing device. One of his favorite days was his surprise 54th birthday party this past July. He was thrilled to see all of his family there, many from as far away as Canada.
Kerwin was uncomplaining and patient through all of his physical challenges. He had more worth than he ever recognized and blessed the lives of those who knew him through his example of fortitude, endurance, and humility. The MS Walk-a-Thon was a cause dear to his heart. We extend his continuing invitation to participate in this annual event as a way to honor his memory.
Kerwin will be missed and remembered with love by his three children and many family members. Dad, you truly are our hero!
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Rose of the University of Utah Neurology Clinic, and Dr. Nathan Call of IHC. We also thank the staff of Logan Nursing and Rehab and Sunshine Terrace, along with many others who helped care for Kerwin.

A viewing will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home at 162 E 400 N in Logan, UT on Saturday, October 6th from 10:30 to 11:30 am, with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 pm. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
