HAWRYLUK Paul

Posted: October 18th, 2012

DR. PAUL HAWRYLUK of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of Frida Hawryluk, went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2012 at 70 years of age, following a heart attack.
Paul was born in Derwent, Alberta on February 17, 1942. Paul always loved learning new things and sharing what he was learning with others, and he did so with a gentle and caring spirit. Paul received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Alberta, his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Lethbridge, and his Doctorate degree in Education, with his dissertation on how creative writers write, from the University of Saskatchewan.
He was a teacher, primarily of basic skills and English, and was loved and respected as a teacher. He was also an author, primarily of short stories and articles, and had published numerous articles and short stories over his life.
Both of these professions and the interactions with his colleagues and students gave Paul a great deal of pleasure, as did his various interests and hobbies such as music, reading, flying, travelling, camping and hiking, language learning, and photography. He was involved in all of these interests right up until the end of his life as he believed in living life to the full.
Paul loved deeply, and was much loved in return. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Frida, their children, Jenine, Rob, Paula (Parveen), and Jonathan, their grandchildren, Tyler, Jordyn, and Kaylie Hawryluk and Kiran, Naomi, and Cassandra Boora, his siblings Nancy Strelive, Dorothy (Dick) Antle, and Peter (Marjorie) Hawryluk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, October 19, 2012 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the LETHBRIDGE CHRISTIAN TABERNACLE, 1805 – 9 Ave North, Lethbridge, with Pastor Eric Hawkinson, officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960 – 19 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 1W5. Many thanks to the City of Lethbridge Paramedics, Dr. Gordon Hunt and Dr. Magdalena Lisztwan, and the other staff at the Emergency Department at Chinook Regional Hospital who went above and beyond in their care for Paul.
