GOCKYI Irena

1912 – 2012  Irena Gockyj, beloved wife of the late Ted Gockyj, passed away in Taber on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the age of 100 years.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Vincent TuanHa, Celebrant. A private family burial will follow at the Taber Memorial Garden. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.southlandfuneral.com.  Irena is survived by her children Michael (Mary) Gockij of Lethbridge, Anne (Mike) Kolaric of Taber, Frank Gockij of Taber and Stephanie (Bob) Taillefer of Taber; grandchildren John Kolaric, Lisa (Barrie) Ensign, Elizabeth Gockij, Steven Gockij, Kevin Gockij, Robert Taillefer and Anitta Taillefer (Lenny Barry); great grandchildren Megan, Taylor, Charlize, Sydney, Whitney and Harlea as well as numerous relatives in the Ukraine.  She was predeceased by her husband Ted and their first child.  Irena was born on June 7, 1912 in Cwitowa, Ukraine to Nickola and Anastasia Glowicki. She married Teodor Gockij and they continued to reside in the Ukraine where they started to raise their family. They immigrated to Canada, arriving in Halifax on March 1, 1950. Irena and Ted eventually settled in Taber where they raised their children on the family farm. In 2009, Irena moved into the Taber Extendicare where she lived for a couple of years. In 2011 she moved into Linden View where she has remained until the time of her passing. She enjoyed cross stitching, gardening and farming. Irena will be lovingly remembered by her family.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Irena’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements in care of Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber.
