MR. WILLIAM “DAVE” DAVID WHITEHEAD of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Elmire “Ellie” Whitehead, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the age of 85 years.
Dave was born in Wosley, SK in 1927 then moved with his family to Regina. His lifetime desire to join the army was realized in 1944 and once again in 1945 when he re-enlisted and obtained his Paratrooper Wings. Dave came home and married his true love Ellie Gelinas in 1950 and together they raised three sons Ken, Robert, and Bryan. Dave was in the Korean War and served in Germany, Japan, and final posting was Lethbridge Armory. He retired from the Military in 1974 and soon after moved to Barons where they lived until 2008, then returned to Lethbridge. For years they wintered in Arizona and summers were filled with gardening. One of his passions was his involvement with the Legion where he held many positions. Dave will be forever missed by his family, friends and his faithful walking companion Angel.
Besides his loving wife Ellie, Dave is survived by his sons Ken, Robert (Lora) and Bryan; grandchildren Christopher (Christa), Mike (Lynn), Matthew, Kyle and Ashley; great-grandchild Brook Lynn; sisters Georgina Foster, Irene (Don) Greysley, Faith (Barry) Phalen; brother Lloyd (Jackie) and Gordon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret, daughter-in-law Sandra, sisters Evelyn and Sybil, and brother-in-law Ian.
All grandchildren and great-grandchild are honourary pallbearers.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Major Glen Habkirk officiating.
