PIETKIEWICZ Helen

Posted: February 8th, 2013

HELEN PIETKIEWICZ joined the Lord on February 3rd, 2013 after 92 years of faithful service. Helen was born on January 9th, 1921 in Usplewczyzna, Poland.

She was predeceased by her husband Jan and her sisters Czesia and Stephania of Poland. Helen is survived by her sister Leokadja, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews of Poland, and many friends both near and far. Helen grew up on a farm in Poland. She and Jan met in Poland before the beginning of World War II. Helen arrived in Canada in the summer of 1961 and later married Jan on September 4th of that same year. She lived and farmed with her husband Jan and their friends, Alfons and Czesia Aksnowicz, for the first year of their marriage. They then purchased a quarter section of land near Kipp, Alberta where they farmed until 1969. Jan and Helen then moved into Lethbridge and resided happily together until Jan’s passing in March 2003. Shortly thereafter, Helen moved into Martha House where she made many friends throughout the years.  Helen enjoyed making many needlepoint and crochet works of art, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, reading books and travelling around the world with her husband and friends. She especially enjoyed camping in Radium Hot Springs for the summers in their camper van and relaxing in the hot springs. Helen will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.  Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Ave South, Lethbridge.
