January 23, 1929 – February 14, 2013
ALTON (AL) NEWMAN FRAIL, beloved husband of Shirley Frail, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2013, at the Raymond General Hospital, at the age 84 years, after a short period of cancer.
Alto was born in Riverside Corner, Nova Scotia. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces (C PRO C) from 1954 to 1966, being stationed in Halifax, Gagetown, Camp Borden, Germany, Calgary and finally Ottawa. During his 84 years, Alton had many careers and professions – a bread truck driver, farmer, soldier, town policeman, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as a manager, hotel/bar manager, school bus driver and finally a retail business operator. He was also CO of the Pincher Creek Cadet Corps and started one in New Dayton. At the time of his illness, he was still in the retail business, even though he had long ago retired.
In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycles and fishing and was always ready to help others. In his later years, Alton loved and enjoyed socializing and playing the VLT’s at the Warner Hotel. He left behind many friends with some long lasting memories. Alton is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley, who will miss him dearly. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Patricia (Calgary), Alton (Ottawa); step-children Linda (Rod) Milton (Brooks) and Wendy (Lethbridge). He is also survived by his grandchildren Mike (Amy), Marc (Yvonne), Richard (Donna), Robert (Keiko), Joalene (Steve), Jacey (Cynthia), Jeremy and Mikayla; nieces Lynn, Faith, and Heather; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Marion (Alan) Campbell and Emily (Glen) Fenton; and grandson John Lefaivre.
A Memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Warner, Alberta.
