Lois May Hopkins, beloved wife of the late Tom Hopkins, passed away in Bow Island on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 94 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 between 7:00 and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 139 – 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating. Lois is survived by her three children Gordon (Joanne) Hopkins of Burdett, Bev (Alan) Whitmore of Calgary and Shirley (Dodge) Slagle of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren Jan (Justin) Reischek, Brad Hopkins, Kim and Melanie Whitmore and Amy, Mandy and William Slagle. She is also survived by a brother Vern Dragland, sister Ethel Chenewski and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Tom and her brother Orville Dragland.
Lois was born on September 29, 1918 in Medicine Hat, the daughter of Oscar and Ester Dragland. She grew up in Conquerville, attended high school in Medicine Hat and Normal School in Calgary. Lois worked in Calgary and Victoria, taught in Coutts, Whitla and Acme before she married Tom Hopkins in 1949 and raised their family on the farm at Burdett. Lois and Tom retired to Bow Island and she spent her final years at Pleasant View Lodge.
Lois was an active community member of UCW, Order of the Royal Purple, Burdett Hall Auxiliary, Pleasant View Auxiliary and a volunteer at Community Adult Learning (ESL), Victims Assistance, Meals on Wheels and Bow Island Tourism Booth.
She was a cherished Mom, Grandmother and friend. Her chocolate chip cookies were famous and she loved the beauty of nature, especially sunsets, clouds and the Sweetgrass Hills.

    Please receive our sincere condolences, we wanted to share a comforting thought with you, at Job 14:14,15 which shows that God longs to bring back to life those who have fallen asleep in death. He loves us and cares for us that much, its just a matter of time .. he will right all the wrong death causes.
