JONES Margaret

1943 ~ 2013
Margaret Jones of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Garry Jones, passed away on March 26, 2013 at the age of 69 years.
Marg was born in Edmonton to Edward and Wanda Miller. She grew up and received her education in Edmonton, becoming a general insurance agent. She worked for McIntyre Insurance before going into partnership with George Lowe. Together they formed Lowe and Miller Insurance. It was at that time that she met the love of her life Garry while away on a weekend trip to Red Deer. They courted long distance and were married on March 25, 1972 in Edmonton
After their marriage, Marg moved to Lethbridge. She worked for Schwartz Reliance Insurance for many years before opening and co-owning A.S.A with Garry. Together they operated that business for 12 years. Marg served as president of the YWCA at the time they broke ground on the current location on 6th Avenue South. After deciding to close their business, Marg came home one day and announced that she was going out to get her bus driving license and intended to get a job driving bus in Lethbridge. While we were in shock, true to the kind of person she was – that is exactly what she did. Marg worked for the Handi-bus association for 15 years until her retirement in 2006. She told the most heartwarming stories of her clients, and genuinely loved serving others. She filled her spare time with gardening, cooking, golfing and playing bridge with a group of life-long friends.
Marg and Garry enjoyed travelling together and saw many sights. Their last trip took them to New York then cruising to the Bahamas’ just prior to Marg’s retirement. Together, they enjoy an extensive list of friends who they travelled with over the years and continued to dine with regularly. Marg had a quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and a dogged inner personal strength. No doubt that is what allowed her to persevere and take her compounding illnesses one day at a time. She never complained and she fought a valiant fight through to the end. Prior to her hospitalization in February, her favourite day of the week was always Friday when her granddaughters would spend the afternoon with her.
Besides her loving husband, Marg is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Gould-Hawke, two beautiful granddaughters – Taylor and Kendle, sister-in law Donna Miller of Spokane, WA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mark and Helen Jones of Calgary as well as 5 nieces, 2 nephews and their families.
Marg was predeceased by her parents Edward and Wanda Miller, In- laws Heber and Montana Jones, brother Bob Miller and two nephews, Michael and Robert.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 2 at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH 2329 15 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB with Rev. Trevor Potter officiating. Cremation and inurnment to follow.
Flowers are gratefully declined, those who wish to make memorial tributes in Margaret’s name may do so to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. Non-monetary donations you could consider that would honor her memory are clothing donations to the Diabetes Clothes Line program or if you are well and able, a blood donation to Canadian Blood Services in her memory.
