1927 ~ 2013
ANNE KEITH passed away suddenly on May 27, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Anne was born in Lethbridge, the youngest child of Paul and Balbina Handerek. She attended St. Basil’s School until moving to Medicine Hat during the war to live with her sister Steph, where she attended school at St. Theresa’s convent. She returned for nurse’s training at the Galt Hospital. Shortly after graduating, she met her husband, Elmer, to who she was married for 56 years. She left nursing to raise her three children, Karen (Aidan) Byrne, Gordon (Karen) Keith and Warren (Dawn) Keith. When her children were grown she returned to work at Tamblyn Drugs, Boots Drugs and Draffin’s Pharmacy until she finally retired to spend more time with her grandchildren, Brendan, Glynis and Liam Byrne of Victoria, Robbie and Steven Keith, and Nick and Katie Keith, all of Lethbridge. Anne was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her siblings, Stephanie, Mary, Leo, Pauline and Steve.
Anne was proud to have been a Galt School of Nursing alumnus and enjoyed getting together with “the girls” for their regular reunions. As Elmer worked at Eatons for many years, Anne was part of the Eatons family where she met many lifelong friends. Anne was a long time member of St. Patrick’s Church and drew spiritual comfort from that beautiful house of worship. She loved animals; there wasn’t a stray who couldn’t find refuge with Anne. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren in their many activities. Anne was an avid hockey fan, a passion which started by listening to games on the radio and continued throughout her life. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was very proud that her brothers and husband served our country during World War II. Anne enjoyed going for coffee with her friends and family and especially her regular coffee group at Tim Horton’s.
Most of all, Anne loved spending time with her family. She was a caring and nurturing mother. She adored her grandchildren and felt blessed to be able to see them grow and accomplish much before she left us. We all have many memories we will treasure forever. We will miss her dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 2405 12 Ave.. South, with Father Roque Pereira, celebrant.
