Posted: June 6th, 2013VICTORIA KATHERINE (HIRSCHE) ZAUGG passed away peacefully at home in Stirling on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the age of 97 years. She is survived by her son Rodney Paul Zaugg of Medicine Hat, and daughters Victoria Lorraine Archibald of Stirling and Carolyn Rae (Timothy Kilner) Perkins of Layton, Utah, 20 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, 2 sisters Rachel Bessie Moore, Joyce Marie Hirsche, brother Ronald Arthur Hirsche and 2 sisters-in-law Jean Lucille Hirsche and Ruth Ellice Zaugg. She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Bohman Zaugg, her son-in-law Gerald Dean Archibald, her daughter-in-law Carolyn Elsie (Layton) Zaugg, her sister Edna Anna Meyers, and her brothers John Roy and Elden Albert Hirsche.
She was born at her parents homestead at Wrentham, Alberta, the 2nd child of John Albert and Anna (Schuler) Hirsche. She had great love and respect for her parents, brothers and sisters. She always loved school. She attended the one room Owen Schoolhouse and later, schools in Wrentham and Stirling. She then went to Normal School in Calgary where she prepared for her long and successful teaching career. She taught at Sunnysite Colony (1 year), New Rockport Colony (2 years), Wrentham (1 year) and finally at the Stirling School (26 years) where she taught grades one and two for a total of 30 years. She loved children and they loved her.
On June 27, 1940 she married her sweetheart Eldon Bohman Zaugg in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They spent the rest of their lives in Stirling. Their devotion to each other was exemplary. They had 3 children, Rodney Paul, Victoria Lorraine and Carolyn Rae.
Victoria lived a quiet simple life, which revolved around her Savior, Jesus Christ, her family and friends. She left a legacy of faith for her family and others. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities; most often with youth and children. Victoria served a Stake Mission with her husband in the Foremost Branch. Some of Victoria’s talents and hobbies included being patient, compassionate and thoughtful of others. She grew beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens. She collected many dolls and loved to read and learn new things. She also enjoyed writing. On her 90th birthday she was awarded a diploma for completing a program of instruction in writing articles and short stories for publication. She then had numerous articles published in one of our local newspapers. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have fond memories of the fun times spent with Victoria playing Rummy and Rook.
