July 13, 2013 — Okotoks, AB
Dedicated wife, caring mother, loving Baba, kind friend to all, Anne passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born in 1919 in Lethbridge into a family of ten, five brothers and four sisters, grew up in the depression and met her husband Lionel in 1939 while he was in Lethbridge during basic training as a Medical Orderly. They married in 1940 and after the war moved to Edmonton where Lionel finished university. They eventually settled in the SW district of Glendale in Calgary, where she enjoyed the friendship of many neighbours, and is still known as Bubba to many. Along with Lionel, Anne became one of the founding members of the Glendale Community Club. An avid 5 pin bowler with many high scores earned her entry into the Lethbridge Sportmans Club — Hall of Fame. Anne and Lionel enjoyed camping with the Good Sam Club, and were longtime members of the Westwinds Curling Club and Canyon Meadows Golf Club. Anne was a perfectionist in the kitchen, never serving small portions. A favorite of many was “The Mound”. She would always greet you with a peppermint, and make you take a couple more for your pocket. Anne was married to her loving husband Lionel for 69 years who predeceased her in 2009. Anne is survived by son Craig (Joan), grandchildren Tad (Caroline), Trevor, Lisa, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and sister Hazel Atwood. Her later years were spent with Lionel in the Evergreen Symphony Retirement home where she met many new friends, and recently resided at Tudor Manor in Okotoks. She fought lung disease, heart disease, breast cancer, dementia, and blindness with dignity. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Many thanks to all the staff at Tudor manor for their friendliness, compassion, caring support and tender loving care.
