GORDON DEWARD ORR, loving husband of Jeannine Ockey Orr passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on Thursday, August 22nd in Cardston, Alberta.
He is survived by his wife and 8 children, 33 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 2 more soon to arrive. His children are: Susan Shipley (LaMar), Bruce (Linda), Dixie Miskin (Chad), Derral (Stephanie), Rick (Carol), Terry Henrie (Scott), Dianne Carrell (Wyatt) and Bart (Nancy). He is predeceased by his Father (Wilford Orr), Mother (Annie Laura Bohne), his 4 brothers & 1 sister (John, Cecil, Merlin, Dean and Luella), 1 son-in-law (Andy Andersen), 2 grandsons (Neil Shipley and Daniel Miskin) and 1 great grandson (Ethan Howard). Gordon was born on March 30, 1924 in Cardston, Alberta in a home on the South Hill. He grew up in Hartleyville near Glenwood in Southern Alberta. He worked with his dad on the farm. He loved horses and was responsible for their care. Sports were important to him throughout his life as a youth and as a parent. He loved life and always had a positive attitude. He served his first mission as a young man in the Eastern Canada Mission (1946-48) He later served a second mission with his wife in the Philippines Cagayan de Oro Mission (1991-92). He loved life and worked many years on Main Street in Cardston as the owner of Orr Realty and Insurance. He taught seminary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served many years in the Cardston Alberta Temple. He spent many summers umpiring softball for both boys and girls games. He was well known for his fairness and mentored the youth along their way. Throughout his life, he volunteered with the Cardston Rodeo Association, the Aetna Irrigation District and the Cardston Fire Department. He loved to work in the garden and in his yard. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service.
