Posted: October 28th, 2013

1918-2013 MR. GORDON LEROY THOMPSON, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Norah Thompson of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the age of 95 years.

Gordon and his family were blest to be able to commemorate two major milestones in the last month of his life: his 95th birthday was 12 days before his death and the 9th anniversary of his wife’s passing was just 5 days prior. He was predeceased by his wife Norah in 2004 and his daughter Patricia in 2000. He is survived by his children: Roger (Susan) Thompson, Donald (Barbara) Thompson, Dorothy (Wolf) Gies and Lyle (Krista) Thompson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Shauna & Rosalind Thompson, Kirsten, Kell (Trista) & Kai Pedersen, Angela (Danny) Gee, Sarah Thompson, Carmen (Scott) Linton, Nicholas & Nathan Gies and Kaisha, Joshua, Jasmine & Elijah Thompson, along with eight great-granchildren. Gordon was born on the family farm at Coutts on October 8, 1918. He was the youngest of 7 children. He was always proud of his 5 years in service in the Air Force during World War II. Upon returning to his hometown, he met his future wife Norah at a homecoming dance for returning soldiers. They married in 1947 and raised their five children on their family farm. Gordon and Norah retired to Milk River in 1978 and to Lethbridge in 1995. Gordon approached both his work and hobbies with the same passion and zeal. Whether it was growing pedigreed seed on the farm, golfing every possible day or his prolific wood carving, he always took pride in doing his best. A family man to the end, Gordon Thompson will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alexander Galt Museum or the Milk River Cemetery Fund. A Celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, October 25 at 10:00 A.M. No Condolences for “THOMPSON Gordon”

  1. Louellen Lee says:

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the death of Gordon. I worked with Gordon at ECCC and spent many of my evening shifts with him trying to ensure he had what he needed. Gordon was a very independent man and would not ask for too much help unless he truly needed it. Gordon liked his cookies and apple juice before bed and if we were late getting it to him, and he was almost asleep, he would usually quietly sit up and finish them both. I will truly miss him. Take solace in knowing Gordon is now in the loving arms of Jesus and is free from all pain and suffering. Gordon is now reunited with all those he loved who went before him. Sleep well my friend.
