It is with great sadness and loving memories, that we announce the passing of our dear mother Violet Pickering. Mom passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the age of 97. Violet is survived by her daughters Mabel Harrold, Laura (Lorne) McGowan, Elsie (Art) Friesen, Maxine (Gary) McKinnon; sons Howard, Harry, Gary, Glen, Norman, Dean (Terry) along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Violet was predeceased by her husband Henry, two sisters Mary and Harriet, and her four brothers, Jim, Wilf, Cliff and Charlie. She was a devoted mother who cared for and loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was resilient, selfless and always concerned about those close to her. She had a great sense of humor and provided our family with many laughs. We will forever carry her in our hearts. At Violet’s request a private family service will be held at a later date. If so desired, memorial tributes in Violet’s memory may be made to The Lethbridge Society for Meals on Wheels c/o Pemmican Lodge; 102 5th Avenue South; Lethbridge, AB; T1J 0S9
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the death of Violet. I worked with Violet at ECCC and enjoyed her true positive spirit. Violet had a contageous laugh and always happy dispite her physical setbacks. I truly enjoyed her and will miss her. Take solace in knowing she is now in the loving arms of Jesus and will sleep in peace and free from all her earthly pain. Enjoy your heavenly home my friend.
I knew Violet and all of the Allen family and have very fond memories of them. As a boy and teenager, I spent summers at Charlie, Wilf and Jim’s place and these summers were some of my richest and memorable experiences. A true pioneer has passed on and we miss her.
