Carol was predeceased by her husband of fifty-five years, Bob Poynton, her son James, her parents, George and Ruth Conley, her brother Georgie and her sisters Kathleen and Louise. Carol Conley, the first child of George and Ruth Conley was born on November 21, 1933 on the family farm in Scandia, Ab. Carol attended school in Scandia and Brooks and earned a University of Calgary teaching certificate followed by her first teaching job in Tilley. Carol married Bob Poynton in 1954 and they farmed together on a mixed grain and beef irrigation farm near Vauxhall. They raised five children to the tune of the west wind. Carol’s passion has always been her family and her cheerful hospitality has been shared by many. The willow, caragana and poplar shelterbelt was planted in the early sixties and, as their trees and children grew, so did the size of Carol’s vegetable garden. Her beautiful gladiola flowers often won first prize in the local agricultural fair. Inside her cozy, welcoming home she had many houseplants, and outside she created a nicely landscaped yard. She taught a year in Hays and later graduated in 1980 from U of L with a B.Ed., she taught in Enchant and later worked as an educational assistant in Vauxhall. Bob and Carol belonged to the Vauxhall St. Steven’s Anglican Church and later St. Theodore’s Anglican in Taber. She was a member of A.C.W. and the Order of the Eastern Star. Carol volunteered at the Vauxhall Public library, a commitment that lasted for twenty years. She especially loved assisting with children’s programs. Carol was on the board of the Alberta Advisory for Mental Health for about fifteen years and for many years she was awarded the fundraising walk trophy for raising the most money for the Lethbridge Schizophrenia Society. Carol and Bob volunteered for many years with the Vauxhall Agricultural Society and they loved taking their Model T Ford in fair parades. They enjoyed travel to many places in North America. Carol and Bob loved their music and they played and sang together around the piano. We treasure our memories of our loving mother, grandmother and friend. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Vauxhall Mennonite Church, 320 9th Street North, Vauxhall, with a United Church minister presiding, followed by burial in the Vauxhall Cemetery. The family of Carol Poynton invite you to join them at the church for a fellowship lunch following the Cemetery Service. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Friends of the Vauxhall Library, Box 265, Vauxhall, AB. T0K 2K0. To express condolences to Carol’s family please visit www.womboldfuneralhomes.com
