Mr. James “Buzz” Buttazzoni of Lethbridge passed away surrounded by family and loved ones at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the age of 74 years.
Buzz is survived by his children; Len Buttazzoni (Peggy), Barbara Beekman (Shane), Dave Buttazzoni (Kristy); his grandchildren, Jim, Brad and Mike Buttazzoni; Bryan, Amanda Beekman , Shalee Mulatz ; and Kayla, Trinity and Alanna Buttazzoni; his great grandchildren, Dexter and Damian Buttazzoni. He also leaves to mourn his sister Alberta (Tony) Van Dyk; brother-in-law Michael (Jackie) Dorchak, sisters-in-law Alice Ferguson and Debbie (Ron) Slawosky, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all of whom will greatly miss Uncle “Buzz”. Buzz was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane in 2007 and his parents Louis and Mary Buttazzoni. Buzz was born in Lethbridge on June 12, 1939 at St. Michael’s Hospital. He received his education at St. Basil’s School and St. Joseph’s High School (CCH). Throughout the years, Buzz furthered his education taking courses that gave him his Millwright ticket and other certifications through Palliser Distillers. Buzz retired from Palliser Distillers in 2004 after 30 years of service, where he was also Shop Stewart for several years. Buzz married the love of his life Diane in 1961 and they spent most of their years together in their home in Hardieville where they raised their children. Buzz will be remembered for his love of model railroading, building plastic model cars, jigsaw puzzles, tinkering in his garage and spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Carrie Abrahamson, Dr. Lee Oviatt, Dr. Brenda Ireland, Home Care Nurses and the Palliative care teams at Chinook Regional and St. Michael’s hospitals for their compassionate and loving care given to Buzz and our family. A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTON FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, December 6th at 7 p.m. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. BASILS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13TH Street North, Lethbridge, on Saturday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. Father Kevin Tumback, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Care Centre, 1400 – 9th, Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4V5.
