December 29, 2013 – Calgary, AB
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Baba, and Great (Big) Baba, Sonia Coleman (nee Bidniak) on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Sonia was born on the family farm at Kahwin, AB on New Year’s Day in 1931. She died peacefully with family by her side just three days short of her 83rd birthday. Sonia was a beautiful woman but never more so than with her grandchildren. As an early birthday gift, they purchased the right to name a star after their Baba. So, when you look towards the Big Dipper, the brightest star in that vicinity will be her, smiling down on you and cheering you on in all that you do. Sonia is survived her children, Doug (Marsha), Gayna Welsh, Dannette (Bob) Scott and Tanya (Craig) Massey; her grandchildren, Chrissy Stowe (Mark), Karen Diebert (Tyrell), Richard Semchyshen, Charene Mattson (Ryan), Timmery Tulloch (Curtis), Jason Welsh, Erica Welsh (Mike), Karoline Coleman, Lisle Massey, Coleman Massey and Skylar Massey; great-grandchildren Evan Mattson, Olivia Tulloch, Sophia and Sawyer Stowe, Katelyn and Oscar Semchyshen; siblings, Celia, Kaye, Harry (Marlene), Judy (Larry); brother-in-law Jack; sister-in-law Jean; and numerous nieces and nephews on both the Bidniak and Coleman sides. Sonia was predeceased by her husband Brian; their dog Ferbie; her sister Marie; brother George; and her parents Elizabeth and John Bidniak. Sonia’s life will be celebrated at St. Paul’s United Church (Milk River, AB) on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 am. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Tree of Hope Campaign, Box 90, Milk River, Alberta, T0K 1M0 or hug your mom or grandmother in honour of Sonia. In living memory of Sonia Coleman, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Airdrie Funeral Home, 300 TOWERLANE DRIVE, AIRDRIE, AB.
