MR. JOSEPH WALTER SWATKOFF, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Pauline Swatkoff of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the age of 89 years. He is the loving father of Ken (Marion) Boyd of Regina, SK, and Susan Boisson of Lethbridge, AB, as well as four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents John & Sophie Swatkoff and brother Steve (Stella) Swatkoff. Joe was born in Poplarfield, Manitoba and spent his childhood in Souix Lookout, Ontario. He loved the outdoors and took a job with forestry service. He then trained to be an air radio operator and spent time in the Northwest Territories. On a trip to Winnipeg, he met his wife, Pauline and they eloped and moved to the Yukon. In 1959, they moved to Lethbridge where they spend the rest of their lives. He still loved the outdoors and spent most of his free time in the mountains where he continued to hunt and fish. After his retirement, he would spend much of the summers in his camper, fishing in the Kananaskis. At Joe’s request, no funeral service will be held.
