Helen Marguerite Peterson (nee Korsa), beloved wife of the late Leo Henry Peterson, passed away peacefully in Taber on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the age of 91 years. Helen is survived by her loving children, sons Keith (Joyce) Peterson of Taber and Phil (DeAnn) Peterson of Idaho Falls, daughter Jodi Peterson of Raymond. She also leaves to cherish her memory seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, fifty nine great grandchildren and their spouses and eleven great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jeanette Powell, Carol Korsa, Vera Rowley and Marie Fenske as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. She was predeceased by her husband Leo; daughters Karen Peterson and Beverly Weir; son-in-law Bill Weir; parents Nicholas and Jane Korsa; twin sister Stepha, sisters Ann (Bill) Allen and Mary (Wilford) Peterson; brothers George (Margaret) Powell, Alex (Olga) Powell, William (Mary) Powell, Mike Powell, George Korsa and John Korsa. Helen was also predeceased by Leo’s family, her father and mother-in-law Henry and Emma Peterson; brothers-in-law Francis (Irene), Glen (Mabel) and Burl (June) Peterson, as well as Norman Fenske and Albert Rowley; sisters-in-law Mildred Peterson, Leona Kemper (her husbands Fred Kemper and Bill Christensen), Melva Peterson, Florence (Clarence) Tufts, Priel (Clifford) Jones, Zella (Clark) Nielson and twins Marium and Marian Peterson. Helen was born in Taber March 13, 1922, with her twin sister Stepha, to Nick and Jane Korsa. She was raised and taught well by her kind and loving parents. Helen married Leo on December 14, 1940 and they settled on a farm at Cranford. She loved the farm and spent long hours working alongside Leo, caring for their five children, landscaping the yard, beautifying their home and working in her huge garden. Due to Leo’s health, it became necessary to sell the farm and the family moved to Taber in 1962, where Helen lived out the rest of her life. After Leo’s death in 1963, Helen worked at several jobs, doing her best to support her family and worked until age seventy six, when she retired. Helen loved being outdoors, enjoying nature and teaching her family an appreciation of God’s creations. She loved fishing, camping, gardening, made award winning arrangements with her beautiful flowers and she was an excellent cook. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family. Helen had a way of making each of us feel loved and she found unique and creative ways of spoiling us. Even though Helen suffered tremendous loss and sorrow in her life, her faith remained strong and through her shining example she left a legacy of Christlike qualities of unconditional love, hard work, endurance, honesty, integrity, joyfulness and service to others. We were blessed to have our ‘Granny’ in our lives and she will be greatly cherished and missed.
