1926 ~ 2014
Alice Mary Bitango passed away peacefully on April 21, 2014 at Good Samaritan Park Meadows in the company of her family at the age of 87 years. Mom was born in rural Seven Persons and resided there until age 15 when she moved to Medicine Hat. A very hard worker she started working at age 12 doing housekeeping and various waitress jobs in Medicine Hat, Milk River & Lethbridge. She married Mike Bitango in 1948 living at The Research Station and Sunnyside area. She worked hard on the farm, was well organized, and always had a coffee and dessert waiting for the many people that dropped in. Working at Sunburst Ceramics, managing the Provincial Building cafeteria & selling Nutrimetics she met and made good friends and shared many laughs. She worked until poor health forced her to retire where she continued to enjoy her home in Lethbridge. She is survived by daughters Dianne (Skip) and Carol as well as sister Emily Howkins, brother Emanual Houff (Minnie), sister in law Violet Houff, and numerous nieces and nephews; also brother-in-law Francis (Punch) Bitango and sister-in-law Lucy Pavan. She was predeceased by brothers Albert and Johnny, parents, nieces, nephew and in-laws. She will be remembered by the many friends she met while living in Sunnyside, Lethbridge, Legion Arms, Garden View, Golden Acres and finally Good Samaritans Lodges. She always did her best, worked hard with a positive attitude and enjoyed a good laugh and a good joke. She appreciated her close friends & family. She is now resting in peace. Many thanks to the staff at Garden View, Golden Acres, Good Samaritans and Gayle’s Apothecary who out did themselves with their care giving. We thank them very much. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Golden Acres Lodge – Social fund, 1615 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, T1H 2V2, or Good Samaritan Park Meadows Lodge, 1511 – 15 Ave N Lethbridge, T1H 1W2.
