Hazel was born in Vulcan, Alberta on February 5, 1926, and was raised on a farm west of Champion. She enjoyed being outside and had a strong work ethic on the farm that carried throughout her life. She loved to be busy and to serve others. Hazel loved to be with her family and show them how much she loved them. She crocheted afghans for every new baby and wedding for all in her family. Hazel served a Family History mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, served valiantly in the LDS temple, worked as a librarian for the University of Lethbridge and the Magrath Library, and was involved in the Magrath Museum. Hazel wrote a family letter every month to all of her family for over 20 years, and was actively involved in the Writers’ Workshop; she has left a legacy of short stories and journals. Hazel will be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Friends may meet with the family on Saturday, May 31 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Garden Place Chapel from 1:00-1:45 pm. Following will be the funeral at 2pm.
