Patricia Mabel Eleanor Snell of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, Jul 5, 2014 at the age of 98 years. Pat was born and raised in Taber and was a member of St. Theodores Anglican Church & the Taber Golf/ Curling Club. She married her late husband Fred on Dec 4, 1935. In 1971 they moved to Lethbridge before Pat settled in Calgary. One of her challenges was nursing her husband Fred before he passed away May 9, 1991. Pat faced and overcame an illness that hit her shortly after the birth of her first child. She was advised not to have more children. Mother recovered and went on to welcome eight more children into her life. Pat was a progressive modern woman, well ahead of her time. She was a dedicated mother, teacher, mentor & friend to her nine children and many grandchildren. Pat loved the movies, crossword puzzles, golf, curling, playing Bridge, chocolate and ice cream. Patricia is survived and fondly remembered by eight of her children Joan Hunt (Stan) Calgary, Richard Snell (Pam) Surrey, Dorothy Orban (Joe) Taber, Ellie Braun-Haley (Shawn) Calgary, Tom Snell (Nola) Calgary, Gerry Snell (Vickie) Calgary, Don Snell (Lori) Crossfield, Susan Snell Markus Calgary; daughters-in-law Joyce Snell Calgary & Jan Snell St. Albert; sisters-in-law Helen Hamman Calgary & Merda Wood Toronto; thirty-one grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Fred; son David Alfred; daughter-in-law Carol Lynn (nee Wolosuk); four brothers; five sisters; five grandchildren; and her parents. A memorial service will be held at Grace Anglican Church (7642 – 22 Street S.E.) on Sat, Aug 09, 2014 at 11:30am. Forward condolences to www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The face in the photo is so familiar. Pat’s generation is all but gone, now, leaving us with fond memories of our carefree childhood days in Taber. How wonderful to have lived for 98 years – both the good and the not so good, and to have raised such a marvelous family. I do not so much feel sadness for the passing of this generation, but more fondness for what they contributed to all of us.
I am thankful to the Snell family for the time we spent growing up with them on Taber’s Southside, and I’m sure there are great stories being told and retold in Pat’s passing.
