1920 – 2014
Mom passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday August 19. Jean devoted her life to her family and friends and will be fondly remembered for the numerous family gatherings and elegant dinners with her famous apple pies. The table was always set with white linen, silverware and fine china. Mom lovingly prepared the main course and desert was always superb. Mom was a wonderful story teller. As she started to talk, her eyes would twinkle mischievously. She got so excited when telling the stories of Lomond, Travers and Enchant. Her favourite memories were of the dances with orchestras and the box socials. Other fascinating stories she told were of cleaning the separator, churning butter, and ridding the weasels from the hen house. She often spoke of her school days and fond memories of her teachers. Dad and Mom lived in the Nobleford area for six years where they developed many lasting friendships and later moved to McNally District where Mom joined the Wilson White Community Club. Everyone enjoyed the activities of the club especially the pot luck suppers held at the school. In 1960 Mom and Dad moved to Lethbridge and built a new home where Mom could pursue her passion for gardening. Her favourite past time was spraying for bugs with a vengeance. Pink was her favourite colour and was reflected in everything around her. She loved to read and often read until 3am. She knew more about politics and world affairs than most. Mom knew how to do almost everything and her children benefited from her knowledge. She cherished the friendships she had with all of her neighbours, political discussions, exchanging recipes and gardening tips. For ten years Mom cared for her father Norman Foster in her home and later for her husband during his lengthy illness. Mom is survived by her youngest sister Janis McKay of Calgary, daughter Sharon Huntrods (Roger Ivie), son Greg Huntrods (Barb), grandsons Kris and Jordie; daughter Carolee Neudorf (Huntrods / Kerkhoff) (Rick), grandsons Ayrton and Mason. Jean was predeceased by her husband Harold, sister Shirley Gallaher and sister Margaret Davis. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of her caregivers. Mom considered everyone of them a dear friend. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 6 from 2PM until 5PM at her home, 1813-17 Street A South. Please come and share our memories.
