1922 ~ 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tilly Shackleford (nee Kutney) of Lethbridge, Alberta. Tilly passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Friday, August 22nd, 2014 at the dear age of 92. Tilly was born February 10th, 1922 in Wyznany, Poland. She immigrated to Canada with her family as a young child. Tilly centered her life around her family, and in her younger years, she greatly enjoyed gardening and baking. She will always be remembered for her delicious homemade bread, and wonderful Ukrainian dishes, as well as for traveling with her German chocolate cake layers folded carefully into her suitcase whenever she visited her daughter and grandchildren in California. Her happiest times always centered around holidays and vacations. Tilly and her husband enjoyed many trips to the Puget Sound where her sister lived and also some cherished trips to Vancouver and Mexico. Tilly is survived by her sister Mary Peterson of Bremerton, Washington; daughter Linda Kapala; granddaughters Faryn Kapala, Afton Kapala and Michelle Kapala; and great-grandson Sawyer Davis of Oak View, California; great-granddaughter Shelby Kapala of Vancouver, Canada, her nephew Peter Kutney and family from Vancouver and niece Patti Kirkpatrick and family from Oregon. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Douglas Shackleford, her parents Helen and Harry Kutney and her brother Peter Rae Kutney. Niece Sherry Findlay gave of herself to help Tilly, her aunt, in ever so many ways and that meant a great deal. Special thanks also to a team of professionals and neighbors who also were a wonderful asset to her. Each morning Tilly was greeted, basic needs were taken care of and most important conversation, care and friendship were extended. Thanks Marion, Andrea, Stephannie and Stephen. She will be missed and we thank her for her love. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 5, 2014 at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 1210 Scenic Drive S., Lethbridge, Alberta.
