TERASHIMA Yasuko

YASUKO TERASHIMA, beloved wife of Akira Terashima, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014 at home in Lethbridge at the age of 81 years. Born in 1933 in Nagano-Ken, Japan to Sadaji and Aiko Furusawa, Yasuko was a grade school teacher and taught for 11 years in Nagano-Ken. She immigrated to Canada in 1965 for her marriage to Akira Terashima. Yasuko took pride in teaching Japanese Ikebana flower arrangement (Shinpa Seizan School) to many students over the years. She was also actively involved with the Lethbridge Northside Buddhist Temple Fujinkai and Satsukikai Ladies Group. Her other interests included: Japanese Sumie calligraphy, Haiku poetry writing, Japanese Shigin singing and singing with the Buddhist Choir. Predeceased by her parents Sadaji and Aiko Furusawa, Yasuko is survived by her husband of 49 years, Akira \”Fred\” Terashima, son Thomas Masaaki Terashima and daughter Irene Aya Terashima. She is also survived by her brother Hidenobu Furusawa and sister Chiyo Terashima and their families. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at THE BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA, 470-40 Street South, Lethbridge, with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of koden and flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to The Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, or to the charity of your choice.
