WRIGHT Lionel

Posted: November 4th, 2014

LIONEL W WRIGHT left this life to return to his Father in Heaven, whom he loved, in Cardston, Alberta on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the age of 92. He is survived by his sweetheart and eternal companion of nearly 71 years, Marie Piepgrass Wright; 6 children, Darleen (Roy-deceased) Terry, Sandi (George) Barty, Fred (Sue) Wright, Linda Wiebe, Joy (Phil) Wilde, and Dawn (Larry) Lauder; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 11/2 great, great grandchildren. Dad was kind, loving humble and completely devoted to our Mom; they wee always together, hand in hand. He loved unconditionally, served selflessly and faithfully and endured to the end. He had a rare sense of humor and was always joking and pulling pranks on others. His greatest joys were fishing, camping, playing cards, riding horses and being with his family. To know him was to love him – he drew people to him with his ready smile and easy laughter. He was the calm that soothed troubled waters – a quiet, unassuming man who disliked being in the limelight. He loved the Lord and his Savior, Jesus Christ, and faithfully followed their examples throughout his life. He worked as a Customs Broker for H.H. Smith Ltd. for 32 years first in Coutts and them as Office Manager in Kingsgate, B.C. before retiring to Cardston in 1987. Faithful and diligent, he served in many Church callings – Bishoprics, Branch President for 11 years, High Councilman and Temple Ordinance Worker. Dad never complained or shirked what he knew was his duty. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces toward the close of WWII and always taught his family to be grateful for the freedom and blessings of living in a free country. We love you and will miss you for being our Hero, Dad! Friends may meet the family ONLY on Wednesday, November 5th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel on Thursday, November 6th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Cardston Cemetery.
