KATHLEEN MERYLE (MATKIN), beloved wife of the late Harold Anderson of Milk River, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Milk River Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the age of 94. She is the loving mother of Wendy (Ken) Brown; \’Mama\’ to Lori Brown; Aaron (Christine) Brown; Traci (Joshua) – Taylor, Nathan, Andrew and Mason Sherwood; Michael Brown (deceased); Kathleen Brown; Peter (Kelly) – Whitney Brown; Chantelle (David) Dudley; Nola (James) – Scarlet and Emme Haynes. She is also survived by her sisters, LeVaun (John) Thompson and Lucille (Jim) Blaxall, brothers-in-law Paul Madge and Darrell (Jan) Anderson, sister-in-law Mildred Thompson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold and grandson Michael Brown, and is having a grand heavenly reunion with both. Kay was born and raised in Magrath, AB, the eldest child of Charles and Ireta Matkin. After marrying Harold, she moved to the family farm outside of Milk River. Kay and Harold welcomed their only child, Wendy Joy, and spent many happy years together working on the farm. During harvest, Kay could be counted on to keep the men fed well, and fed often! Besides driving school bus for 28 years, Kay and Harold worked hard to contribute to their community and were avid enthusiasts for small town living. Kay immersed herself in her community and served on many boards and auxiliaries throughout her life. As Wendy grew older, Harold and Kay spent the winters in Mesa, AZ where they created lifelong friendships. Kay later moved to the Prairie Rose Lodge where she continued to enjoy many friendships with the staff, residents and visitors. Mama was full of love and generosity. If you met her, you didn\’t forget her, and chances were she didn\’t forget you. She was that special type of lady who made you feel welcome and cared for, no matter how much time might have passed between visits. She always had a smile on her face, and welcomed you in for a visit. She showered everyone she met with love, appreciation and kindness. She was full of grace and composure. She knew the value of staying in touch, and always found time to make a quick phone call to catch up. She was a social butterfly and would never turn down a game of dominoes. Mama\’s joy was her posterity. She never tired of loving and caring for her family. She supported us in all our endeavours and was always eager to hear about our adventures. She loved us unconditionally and was never as happy as when we were all together. Kay had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many callings throughout her life. She loved her Saviour and truly emulated his call to \”Come, follow Me.\” She will be missed by her family, her community, and the vast array of people lucky enough to call her their friend. She would be the first to assure you, \”I\’m fine. I\’m just fine!\” Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, COUTTS CHAPEL. Friends may meet the family prior to the service from 9:45-10:45 a.m. and are invited to stay following the services for luncheon. Family interment to follow in the Milk River Cemetery.
