TAKAHASHI Hisako

Posted: January 30th, 2015

HISAKO M. TAKAHASHI, beloved wife of 66 years to Shigeo B. Takahashi (deceased), passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the age of 87 years. A special thanks to Dr. Benke, Jack Ady Cancer Centre and Dr. Kizuk, Palliser Medical Clinic, as well as the palliative care doctors, RN nurses and all other staff that made moms stay at St. Michael’s Covenant Health Centre comfortable and friendly, along with a very positive environment for everyone. Hisako is remembered by her children: Wayne (June) Takahashi, Ina (Bob) Harris, Eldon (Dianne)Takahashi, Eileen (Dewey) Spitzer, Edie (Doug) Takahashi, Darcy McKenna (Pete- deceased), Lisa (Doug) Brown and 12 grandchildren and 22 1/2 great grandchildren. Hisako is also survived by her two brothers Mas (June) Takahashi and Paul Takahashi (Juanita- deceased). Hisako was born in Stave Falls, BC on November 21, 1927. After all of the children were born, Hisako’s parents moved the family to Vancouver, in a district called Kitsilano where she attended school at Henry Hudson School and Kitsilano High School and School of Commerce with other Japanese children. After the attack on Pearl Harbor of Japan her family sold everything they could, left immediately, and hopped on a train to Raymond, AB. She attended school in Welling, AB and went to Toronto School of Design in 1948, returned and married her sweetheart, \”Shin\” Takahashi on December 1, 1948. They farmed for many years, retired and moved to Lethbridge where they enjoyed their remaining years. Hisako and Shin enjoyed the company of \”the gang\”, who included Jack and Louise Nishiyama and Mas and Miyo Sunada. They did so many things together. She loved the karaoke singing groups, she helped them start singing clubs and she herself was able to entertain locally and had the opportunity to perform all over the world (Canada, USA and Japan). She loved all the family, great grandchildren and grandchildren. She loved to sing (performing), bowling (league), have high tea parties, go visit friends, phone those that needed a call and loved her rose garden and her little bench in her private garden. Most of all she loved her hats (oh so many of them). She had a special spirit about her and will be truly missed by everyone. We know she is dancing and singing and enjoying herself with Shin and other family members and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 — 4TH Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Canon Erin Phillips officiating. Wheel chair access is available at the 11th street entrance into the church.

  1. Norm & Yvonne Clarke says:

We are away in Texas for several weeks so were unable to attend the funeral for your dear Mother and Grandmother. She was such a beautiful lady, inside and out. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

  2. Deb and Rick Fraser says:

So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Will keep your family in our prayers.

  3. Patrica De Gabrielle says:

So sorry to hear about Hisako. I have thought of her dearly since we moved to Vancouver Island, and did not realize she had passed away. I was her dance teacher in Lethbridge, and she was a dear friend to both Patrick and I. We will always remember her wonderful singing voice, and Danielle (daughter) often speaks of our times together. I am sure she is bringing joy to the other angels!
