OLSON

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Jessica Raedeen Olson passed away at the age of 24 years, beloved daughter of Marlene (Evan) King; Dale (Wendy) Olson and sister of Mikayla Olson. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandmothers Mabel Snortland and Dolores Olson both of Medicine Hat; her step-brother, Scott Gustavson and step-sister Regan Gustavson; many aunts, uncles, cousins and her loving pet Desodo. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Roy Snortland and Don Olson. Since her childhood, Jessica has been community minded. Even from age 9 and onward, she volunteered with her 4-H groups, supported the local SPCA and ensured that friends and family had love and support. Jessica was a brilliant academic and received academic awards in Irvine school, Eagle Butte High School, Medicine Hat College, and Lethbridge College. Jessica had earned an Addictions Counseling certificate from Medicine Hat College and her bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies from Lethbridge College. Jessica was a highly competitive athlete, competing in soccer as a child including a summer games rep team. Jess went on to compete in high school athletics in soccer, badminton, and rugby. Jessica continued her competitive nature into her womanhood as a “no holds barred” jammer in roller derby. She was known as a consummate lady off the track but would “skate like a boss” when she took on her alter ego onto the flat track! Jessica loved travel and had traveled to Europe with her high school as well as California and Arizona for College. She had annual family vacations camping, and especially enjoyed house boating on the Shuswap and winter vacations to the Caribbean for scuba diving and water sports. Jessica treasured friends and family and was loved beyond measure. You could not meet Jessica without falling in love with her, to know her was to love her. The world is poorer without her infectious laughter.

Heaven has received a true angel. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday 1 hour prior to service time. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. I’m gutted to hear of her passing. I only had the pleasure of her participation in on drama course but Jessica made an indelible impression. She was a firebrand wrapped in a gentle soul and her presence is sorrily missed. My thoughts are with all of Jessica’s family and friends.
