MCGLENN HelenPosted: February 8th, 2016
HELEN MAY MCGLENN, beloved wife of the late Gerry McGlenn, passed away on Feb. 4, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with cancer. Helen was born Feb. 12, 1929 to Mildred and Owen “Bus” Selk. She was the eldest of seven children. Helen attended Wrentham School graduating in June 1947. She married the love of her life, Gerry McGlenn in Jan. 1948. They both loved dancing and attended dances whenever they could enjoying the two-step from the Big Band Era. Helen and Gerry lived on the family farm north of Stirling, raising their three children – Nancy, David and Bob – and enjoying farm life. During those years, Helen was on the Stirling School Board, taught Boy Scouts and chauffeured Little League baseball players. Helen attended church regularly and had a strong testimony. She enjoyed being a member of the church choir. Helen and Gerry moved to Lethbridge in 1977. They enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and camping in Waterton with their family. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren and spent as much time as they could attending their special events, taking them camping and having sleepovers. She will be in their hearts forever. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Gerry, and her son, David. She is also predeceased by her brothers Melvin, Owen and Roy and her sister Lila. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Roger) and son Bob (June) and nine grand children and 14 great grandchildren and sisters Viola and Elaine, and sisters-in-law Merlye and Carlene. We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff of St. Therese where she was affectionately called “Grandma” and to the doctors and nurses who helped care for her and make her last weeks as comfortable as possible. Friends may meet the family on Monday, February 8 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, or prior to the funeral service on Tuesday from 1:00 to 1:40 p.m. at the church.
