Eleanor Jockims

1938 – 2016

Eleanor Katherine Jockims of Lethbridge, beloved wife and soul mate of Clarence, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Saturday March 5, 2016, at the age of 78.

Born the eldest child, Jan 5, 1938, to Herbert and Martha Finkbeiner in Kincaid, Sask.

Mother to Kevin (Sandra), Terri (Bob) and Rosalie (Dave); Nana to Samantha, Kayli, Kris, Jennifer, Sean, Shelby and Travis; sister to Doreen, Marilyn (Harvey), Don and Dale (Clara), sister-in-law to Larry (Gail), Auntie and cousin to many, friend to all. Eleanor was pre-deceased by her parents, brother-in-law’s Bob Andrew and Jim Keller and sister-in-law Flo Finkbeiner.

Mom started her career at Swift Current Collegiate Institute taking a Secretarial Arts course. She worked as a copywriter at CKSW Radio Station in Swift Current for 14 years while she and Dad were raising their children.

In 1971 they moved their family to Lethbridge where Mom furthered her career with Lethbridge School District #51 at Senator Buchanan Elementary School where she worked for 22 years. She loved working with the children and her colleagues. She remembers her time spent at the school fondly.

Family holidays were spent enjoying the great outdoors, usually here in Canada. We were lucky enough to go to Disneyland as a family before us kids grew up and started families of our own.

Mom was always involved with her Community and Church, including the CGIT, Girl Guides and Kinette Club. Most recently she kept active and volunteered at the Nord-bridge Senior’s Center.

Mom and Dad travelled extensively during their retirement, including trips to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, and cruising to Alaska and the Panama Canal. Most recently they went on a bus tour to Branson, Missouri and rode the Rocky Mountaineer from Calgary to Vancouver. They always made new friends wherever they went.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Her Life at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 St. S., Lethbridge, AB.
