MOGUS

July 16, 1962 – March 15, 2016

It is with profound sadness and gentle relief that the family of CORY MOGUS announces her passing. A spark of life taken far too soon after a five-year journey with cancer that she coped with by “living in denial”. She focused on enjoying life and staying positive.

Cory fully engaged in life surrounded by numerous friends. They called her their social butterfly. Cory was involved in the Lethbridge Community Taiko Association (drumming), Dragon Boating with Lethbridge Leftovers (past) and currently Nautigals and A Breast of Bridge. Cory golfed with the Ladies League at Land-O-Lakes Golf and Country Club and bowled with “The Who” on Tuesday night league. Cory quickly and easily became friends with all those who entered her life.

Cory was born and educated in Lethbridge and worked a variety of jobs including her recent employment with the Government of Alberta during the past 26 and a half years.

Cory is survived by her mother Viola Mogus, sister Cindy (Frank) Kabelka, sister Charlene (Rino) Cattapan and two nieces Christine Kabelka and Pamela Tymensen. She was predeceased by her father Ken Mogus.

We wish to thank those involved in her care. Cory remained friends with her original surgeon Dr. Ryan McColl and his assistant Glenda. The Medical Oncologists and staff at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre. Dr. Elijah Dixon (Calgary), Dr. Rajveer Hundal (Lethbridge), her caring family physician Dr. Dionne Walsh and the exceptional Palliative Care team with a special thank you to Dr. Brenda Ireland and Dr. Elvira Smuts.

Flowers graciously declined. Please donate generously to St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 1400 – 9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4V5.

As Cory wished, a Celebration of her Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. with a tribute and slide show.

  2. Cindy Yagos says:

My heart goes out to Cory’s family, friends, and loved ones at this sad time. I was lucky enough to meet & work with Cory back in 1998 & she truly was a “spark of life”. She was always positive & I loved her quick wit & wonderful sense of humor. I will always remember with great fondness. RIP Cory, fly free, until we meet for a smoke again on the other side.

  3. Brian Lambert says:

I knew the Mogus family quite well during the 80’s as I worked with Cory’s dad during those times. Not sure if Cory herself worked for my Uncle in Lethbridge or if it was Charlene & Cindy, but got to see them often. Got to know of the girls quite well thru Ken in our days working together so I was quite shocked to read that Cory had passed away, and at such a young age. it is unbelievable that a young soul could be taken from us so soon. My deepest Condolences go out to the Mogus Family.
