KIFFIAK, MARIAN 1919 – 2016

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14: 2-3

The family of MARIAN LUCILLE KIFFIAK are sad to announce her passing, at Extendicare Holyrood in Edmonton on June 18, 2016, in her 97th year, to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her husband Nick of 68 years in 2006, her parents Jack & Carol Newton, three sisters: Joyce Elford, Lola Wall and Marjorie Cannon.

Marian was born in Carstairs and her family moved from Red Deer to Skiff to Homestead on unbroken rocky prairie land in 1935. She married Nick, in 1938, who had purchased land from her Father. Mom received a cow as a wedding present from her parents, which she took delight in milking daily. Farm life wasn’t easy, but she was a hard-worker, meticulous homemaker, wonderful cook and baker (so many tasty pies, cinnamon buns, spudnuts and strawberry shortcake). She loved all of nature, the birds, her flower and vegetable garden, shiny shoes, picnics and trips to the mountains. She was a devout Christian and was very involved in church activities, whether it was sewing quilts, tearing bandages for the missionaries or baking for church and community functions. She enjoyed entertaining and so many Sundays, after church, the house was filled with company for dinner. But most of all, she loved her family and her Bible. The farm was sold at Skiff in 1965, then moved to Taber, Calgary in 1979, Sherwood Park in 2004 and Edmonton 2008 to 2016. A true Albertan!

Left to cherish her with so many wonderful memories and to celebrate her life are her five children: Carol (Dave) Neely (Abbotsford, BC), Allan (Betty) Kiffiak (Edmonton), Verna Lange (Calgary), Lois (John) McEwen (Sherwood Park) and Karen (Doug) James (Edmonton), her twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter, her brother Noelin (Ruth) Newton (Lethbridge) and many nieces and nephews.

Heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Extendicare Holyrood who made Marian’s last years comfortable.

A Private Family Interment will take place at Archmount Cemetery in Lethbridge.

  1. Linda Harvey says:

I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother and other family members. She was dearly loved and will be missed. I have so many good memories of her and the times we had together.

  2. Erna says:

There are many fond memories of visits to your farm years ago 🙂 Remembering mashed potatoes piled almost higher on top the bowl than in it. Lots of good food, fun, and fellowship.
In the later years visiting her in the nursing home, remember her enjoying having her Bible read to her, and her reminiscing about how Holy Spirit was so precious in the ways He touched people. 🙂
May you all know deeply the peace that passes all our understanding from the God of ALL Comfort, and have the hope of an eternity spent together with her.
